We're on Bloglovin'!

Follow our blog with Bloglovin

What exactly is Bloglovin'? Since we're too lazy to explain and there's a video already conveniently made...

We opened this account to make it easier for other communities to access our blog, as well as follow up on the posts on this organized site we love. On the right sidebar we added a widget for easy following, so don't hesitate! ;) And if you don't already have an account, go check it out because we definitely found it helpful when following a ton of other blogs.

Photo Diary: Yaoyao goes to Downtown Palo Alto

After a tough start-up of the new semester this year, what better way to take a break than by having a girl's day out? I, Yaoyao, enthusiastically took up onto this idea by spending a day out with my girlfriends, Lucy and Michelle. We three girls headed to Downtown Palo Alto on our own, carrying fat wallets and hopeful hearts (for sales). Although there was more eating and getting lost than actually shopping, we still managed to empty our wallets purposefully on good buys while having a lot of fun at the same time.

Follow up on what we did in Palo Alto by reading on!

Woohoo, we love Sephora! Partly for the nice products, but mostly for the free samples. I used Urban Decay for both Michelle and Lucy's eyeshadow looks, and YSL lipstick in "Le Orange" for myself.

Please excuse my messiness, I'm a noob when it comes to nails. Still, I had to feature this neon look because I used Sephora's "UV" top coat which supposedly makes it glow-in-the-dark.

Back to the ol' middle school dress-trying days. Except this time, we're buying for junior prom! .... Kidding. No matter what occasion, we love these dresses from BCBG Max Azria that we matched according to our makeup looks. Next, are some food photos I really just couldn't help posting.

Video Diary: Yaoyao Goes Thrifting

How are your February Break's going, guys? Well, I am certainly busy (off spending Chinese New Year's money, that is). One of the stops I made was to a nearby Salvation Army with Sunny and Anusha. Boy, am I glad I made the stop, because the deals were superb. I bought four items that I actually like, all for under 20 dollars! ... I'm starting to wonder why I didn't try thrifting before. The cashiers at this shop even gave us a 50% discount because we were singing along to the Taylor Swift playing in the store. Yeah, that doesn't happen often.

I definitely had a great time and a great buy, so follow my experience in this video and later go thrifting with your pals! And I mean, come on. Macklemore likes it.

Sorry, you may have to turn up the volume because I'm talking too quietly. And view in highest quality please. Special thanks to Jenn Im (clothesencounters) for the inspiration as well!

An Epic Feature!

Let me start this post by saying thank you to our readers because we've recently hit 10,000 views on our blog! Woohoo! Thank you all so much, we seriously could not have done it without all the support and motivation from you guys. Even though we still have a long way to go until we reach our ultimate goal for CrushMag, to publish school magazines, we still want to thank each and every one of our amazing, loyal readers.

Anyway, last Friday something very exciting happened.....

We were featured on the newspaper! Ehh okay, school newspaper, but still super cool because they interviewed us about our different inspirations and future plans for Crush. (Not to mention they made us sound so sophisticated!)

So we would like to give a big thanks to the Epic for featuring us along with joyfuloutfits.blogspot.com flyelephantfly.blogspot.com and jennayscloset.blogspot.com -- Check them out too!
What's amazing about being featured on the Epic is that we discovered other student's fashion blogs, some of which we would have never known if it weren't for the Epic. It's interesting to see how we all have different styles in fashion and blogging, yet we all relate in how we all have passion in what we do.

Now as of Crush, we are currently overflowing with new ideas for the next post or photo shoot, and we promise that there will be more to come.  So we hope you stay with us and continue to support us throughout this journey.

Love,
Crush

New York Fashion Week

Even though we as high schoolers can't fly all the way to New York for its iconic Fashion Week Spring 2013, thanks to the magic of the internet, we can find out what's hot on the runway! Just by looking through various blogs and websites, we were able to stay updated. Here are just five of the many prominent trends that even high schoolers can try out!

1. 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2013 - mixing sweet florals with grunge. This look works well at school, too, because you can dress down a sweet summer dress.
2. Proenza Schouler Spring 2013 - the collared shirt is still in, and it's anything but basic! Play with colors, textures, patterns
3. 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2013 - structured patchwork in different shades of denim can be paired it with printed pants.
4. Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 - be unconventional with turbans and obi belts! Mixing patterns works well when you have lots of light layers to play with.
5. BCBG Spring 2013 - Delicate lace and sheer pieces work well with tough jackets. Don't be afraid to go all out.

Try these looks out as the weather warms!

Campus Style: Valentine's Day

This Valentine's day, Lynbrook was thinking pink, floral, and lace when it came to their outfits. With warm and sunny weather, girls got out their sweetest pieces to celebrate a day of love.

Diana plays with pastels, wearing a lace batwing top to match her crochet TOMS and a pale pleated maxi skirt.

Janice rocks a denim jacket, tough (and beautiful!) bag, and a wide belt to compliment her flowing high-low skirt.

Jessica's bold floral leggings work well with black combat boots and a black sheer top.
Sarah plays with texture by pairing a rosy lace-overlay dress with a chunkier cardigan.
Hope your Valentine's day was sweet, too!

DIY: Sock Bun

Every girl loves a big, beautiful bun! In your hair, that is...
Today's tutorial is on the famous sock bun. We've all seen the donut-shaped rings in stores and used by celebrities. What most people don't know is the origin of these easy-to-make buns!
Sock buns actually originated from female marines. Those with unruly or curly hair needed an easy way to keep their hair away from their face. Sock buns were a perfect solution for neat hair.
Here are some examples of sock buns:

And on celebrities:

In our recent Daily Style post, I featured a large bun to top off my prim and proper outfit. For girls with thinner hair, this easy DIY will make it seem as if you have all the hair in the world. All it takes is an old sock!
Here's how to do it in six easy steps:

1. Find an old crew sock. The longer the sock (thigh high socks, anyone?), the bigger your bun will turn out to be.
2. Start rolling. Make the rolls even so that the final sock is as round as possible.
3. Continue until the roll reaches the toe.
4. Cut a slit at the toe.
5. Finish rolling so that the sock turns into a nice donut.
6. Place at the bottom end of a ponytail and roll the hair until it reaches the hair tie. If the bun is still loose when completely finished, use some bobby pins to secure the edges.

Fun tip: Put your hair in a sock bun overnight and take it out in the morning for loose curls.
Have fun with sock buns!
