Daily Style: Journalism Convention @ SF

Yaoyao wears a Cotton On skater skirt, Forever 21 knotted blouse, Forever 21 denim vest, Steve Madden (thrifted) purse, sandals from China, and an Aldo ring.

This simple outfit is easygoing and comfortable, yet stylish enough for a day out in the big city. Cute wedges would also go well with this look, but since we were going to do a decent amount of walking, I decided to stick to relaxed sandals. The denim vest was actually just recently bought at the Forever 21 in the background! However, it was a nice addition and an extra layer of warmth in the breezy San Francisco so I added it to give more dimension. You can also wear this outfit for a day out shopping, a downtown Sunday brunch, or even a trip to the beach!

Rachel wears a polka dotted blazer and lace tank (both thrifted!) with a contrasting pink Forever 21 cami. On the bottom she wears H&M highwaisted shorts, sheer black tights, and Mossimo boots.

The city has the most unpredictable weather, and we have to be prepared for anything! Shorts and tights can go in both cold and hot weather and are much more stylish than plain black jeans. To save my poor feet from blisters while exploring the city, my trusty boots kept them nice and cushioned. To contrast my all-black bottom, a white lace tank adds a spring-y feel and different texture. I'm also loving this new thrifted blazer! The navy and cream polka dots math with almost any color, and this piece has the ability to dress up a casual outfit or dress down a fancy dress. It's sophisticated and fun at the same time!

What would you wear in the city?

Video Tutorial: Headband Curls

Easy and effortless - what more could you ask for? If you don't want to burn your hair with an iron, or if you simply want a pretty updo resulting in curls, the headband is your go to!

Some tips:

  • Use a loose cotton headband so it doesn't squeeze your head too tightly or leave marks in your hair.
  • For neat curls, use equal amounts of hair in each roll.
  • If you make the headband curls carefully, it can be worn out as an updo!
  • This works on any hairstyle - short, long, layered...

Happy Dragon Haul

Thrifting... again?? Well, as broke high schoolers with not enough money, thrifting is always a good option. For a recent club social, we went to the Happy Dragon Thrift Shop in Downtown Los Gatos and picked up some amazing deals. Afterwards, we stopped by Goodwill and found some awesome name-brand pieces as well. These prices make sales at the mall look expensive!
These are the bags filled with all our loot:

Upon dumping these bags out, here's what we got.

Yes, I know it's a lot. But we found some great steals, such as these:
  • American Eagle denim shorts
  • Adidas skinny soccer sweats
  • Xhilaration polka dot blazer
  • Zara blazer
  • Gap sweater
  • Peter pan collared shirt
  • Kimchi Blue cardigan
  • Fur vest!!!
  • Steve Madden bag
  • Cotton On sequined tee
  • American Apparel cardigan
  • a hipster book full of polaroids (?)
  • J. Crew sweater
  • 100% silk buttonup
  • Forever 21 dress
  • Oversized grandpa sweater
  • Vintage mint prom dress (it makes me look like a Tiffany & Co. box, but I'm in love with it. Best part? It was only $3!)
...And much, much more! Among these amazing deals, I also stumbled upon afro wigs, asian hats, leggings that looked like jeans, and other interesting items. You never know what you'll find at a thrift shop! Thrifting is such a fun - and cheap - experience, especially when you're with friends.
They always say that one man's trash is another's treasure!

Down in Eighties Town

Wow, it's been awhile. Sorry guys! ...To make up for this hiatus, I took advantage of spring break by finishing up a post we've all been waiting for-- Esther Lin's photo shoot won from the giveaway!

One of our goals at Crush is to show others that girls can be beautiful in many ways that may be considered unconventional or unexpected. Thus, we decided to do an eighties (school girl?) theme to bring out a new side to Esther. With the combined effort of Wakana's beauty/hair skills, Rachel's and my styling, and Esther's cute and bubbly complex, we produced a successful shoot. Hopefully you guys will be just as surprised as us!

On top of the amazing pictures, the team absolutely loved working with Esther! We definitely plan to have more giveaways in the future, so stay updated with us. Following with your Google account would make us more motivated to do more photo shoots like this! We'd also be very happy. :) Alright, enough of this self-promotion... Enjoy the photos!
